Job DescriptionAlta Link’s Operations – Project Development team is actively seeking a Project Manager to lead, manage and develop customer projects from initial requests through permitting with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). This role involves working with the AESO, Distribution Facility Owners, Industrial Partners, Generation Customers (Gas, Wind and Solar), Emerging Technologies, and Alta Link Asset Management to grow Alberta’s economy.
As a Project Development Project Manager, you will lead a diverse project team, coordinate with internal and external experts, and serve as a key interface with Connecting Customers and the AESO. Responsibilities include defining project requirements, managing scope, budget, and schedule, delivering key project documents, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring compliance throughout the permitting process.
Responsibilities- Effectively lead projects within a matrix organization from concept to AUC decision, including building, managing, and leading project teams;
- Represent Alta Link with the AESO and Customers, providing exceptional customer service that exceeds expectations;
- Manage overall project cost, compliance, quality, scope, and schedule to meet objectives;
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies;
- Deliver required project documentation: connection proposals, service proposals, and facility applications;
- Lead the project through the AUC permitting process, responding to Information Requests and assisting through regulatory proceedings;
- Report project status, costs, schedule, changes, and risks to the AESO, Customers, and Alta Link Management;
- Manage Alta Link’s identity with the AESO, Customers, and stakeholders, including the public impacted by the project;
- Lead and manage external consultants and contractors responsible for design, engineering, and estimate development activities;
- Transition projects from the Development Team to the Delivery Team efficiently;
- Demonstrate key behaviors and meet expectations outlined in the four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering;
- Qualifies for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Engineers & Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA);
- Minimum of 4 years of proven project management experience with responsibilities similar to those described above;
- Experience building, managing and leading multi-disciplined teams in a matrix organization;
- Experience leading and managing EPC contractors and external consultants;
- A strong commitment to integrity, teamwork and safety;
- Active facilitation and problem-solving skills, with flexibility, diplomacy and negotiation skills at all organizational levels;
- Customer Service mindset that proactively exceeds internal and external customer needs and expectations;
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with team members and customers;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with conflicting priorities; strong time management skills;
- Some site travel required, driver’s license required;
- Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
