Description
The Ski Patrol Assistant Supervisor is a senior, experienced Patroller who provides experience and leadership to the overall Public Safety team, monitoring snow slopes to ensure the safety of all guests and staff at the Ski Area, and providing prompt, efficient, and courteous first aid response to those in need.
Assistant Supervisors are leads for their cross-functional team of ski patrollers and will work with these direct reports on timely goals for the period- such as mountain setup, staffing for busier periods, training plans and formal performance reviews.
Assistant Supervisors report directly to the Ski Patrol Supervisor and work closely with and under the direction of the Senior Supervisor Public Safety. Assistant Supervisors participate in all matters of risk management and works closely with all Mountain Operations teams, interacting with all Ski Area departments.
Essential Functions
Assistant Supervisors must possess and demonstrate all skills expected of an experienced Patroller.
The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee, support and encourage a positive team environment by imparting knowledge, assisting with the organization of training, and maintaining balance through effective communicationby working closely with all staff.
Accountable for the development of safe work procedures and hazard assessments for all tasks within the scope of work is essential for the role as is setting a good example for safe work.
Assistant Supervisors are expected to be an active member in avalanche control and lead their team to obtain that skill set in collaboration with the Lead Avalanche Forecaster.
Acting as a mountain safety ambassador managing and mitigating risk in the mountain environment.
Conducting regular inspections of the mountain, work spaces, and Village infrastructure to identify risk, report findings, and recommend corrective action.
Providing prompt, efficient and courteous assessment, treatment and transport to those who require it.
Act as a senior patroller when requested to assist at medical or other emergency scenes.
Extremely knowledgeable about the ski area, its operational boundaries, and nearby backcountry.
Enforcing ski area policies within the limits of authority.
Participating in public and staff education on safe skiing and riding at the ski area and elsewhere.
Maintaining signage, equipment, and monitoring the conditions of slopes.
Acting with autonomy; allowing individuals or teams to make informed decisions which follow protocols and procedures without excessive influence or direct supervision.
Implementing the Sunshine Village Emergency Response Plan and all Emergency Response Assistance Plans, including, but not limited to Medical and/or Trauma, Avalanche rescue, Lift and Gondola evacuation, High Angle rescue, Search & Rescue and Security emergencies. Can undertake Scene Commander, Base Commander and/or Incident Commander functions on all types of emergency response.
Training trainer in lift, gondola, and self-evacuation procedures and rope rescue techniques.
Reviews and develops training programs on an ongoing and annual basis.
Leading avalanche rescue and control operations, as and when required: documenting all training, being proficient in explosives deployment, preparation, handling, transportation, recording, and storage.
Performing weather and snowpack observation and contributing to the daily avalanche forecasts.
Effectively handling a toboggan in all terrain, along with operating a snowmobile and other oversnow vehicles within abilities , after initial or recurrent training is completed in accordance with the Snowmobile Training Program.
