Overview
WINS is hiring a Development Officer to help fuel our mission by growing philanthropic investment in our community programs and strategic priorities. You’ll join a collaborative, driven fund development team that’s fully integrated with frontline staff and leadership, and you’ll see the direct impact of your work in neighbourhoods across Calgary.
As a Development Officer, you will manage and grow a diversified portfolio of individuals, corporations, and private foundations, cultivating and soliciting support for WINS programs and priorities. You will support the development and implementation of engagement strategies for individuals, corporations and foundations who are capable of making major gifts ($10–$250k). The Development Officer also ensures proper stewardship takes place following a gift, to maintain the donor’s long‑term involvement, interest and support.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and grow a portfolio across individuals, corporations, and foundations, through tailored engagement and stewardship plans.
- Write persuasive proposals, LOIs, and impact reports by distilling complex program information into accessible, reader‑friendly narratives and clear budgets.
- Support major donor relationships through discovery, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation, and stewardship, collaborating with the Director, Philanthropy and other senior leadership members.
- Create donor journeys and stewardship touchpoints that feel personal, timely, and authentic.
- Ensure accurate CRM tracking of all donor‑facing activity.
- Provide orientation to volunteers on appropriate donor engagement strategies.
- Develop and implement plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities.
- Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years’ experience with a proven success record in fundraising.
- Experience supporting the development of prospect relationships, from identification to stewardship.
- Ability to write clear, concise, compelling proposals; ability to tailor voice and tone for different audiences and formats (formal proposal, email, one‑pager, etc).
- Strong in‑person relationship‑building skills, including the ability to project a warm and authentic presence. Able to open doors and nurture trust with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in consistently meeting deadlines / deliverables and standards for quality work.
- Entrepreneurial problem‑solver with a track record of meeting or exceeding goals.
- Experience in volunteer engagement, including recruiting and engaging volunteers.
- Proven ability to collaborate across teams and engage senior leadership in cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Comfortable engaging in person, by phone, in writing and across digital platforms, including proficiency working within a fundraising CRM.
- Valid driver’s license required and ability to travel as necessary.
