Director of Fund Development
The ALS Society of Alberta supports Albertans living with ALS and their families through every stage of the disease, while funding research toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. ALS moves fast, and so does our work. Every community fundraiser, every third-party event, every new supporter we bring in directly extends the support we can offer families across the province.
This role sits at the heart of that mission. You will be the face of the ALS Society in communities across Alberta, building the relationships and local capacity that fuel our work.

The Director of Fund Development leads the strategy, planning and execution of fund development for the ALS Society of Alberta. This is a senior role responsible for building a sustainable, diversified revenue base, including annual giving, donor campaigns, community and third-party fundraising, sponsorship, and the organization's first capital campaign.
This role sets the direction, the Coordinator (a new hire this Director will recruit and lead) executes much of the community-facing and event work day to day. The Director is accountable for the revenue strategy, the donor pipeline, and the organization's overall fund development capacity.
This is a build role as much as a run role. You will be shaping how the ALS Society raises money for years to come, not maintaining an existing system.
What You’ll Do Fundraising Strategy and Revenue GrowthThis is the core of the role: deciding where the organization's fundraising energy goes and building a plan that gets it there. Nothing else in the role matters if this isn’t right.
- Develop and lead the organization’s overall fund development strategy, setting annual and multi-year revenue targets across giving streams.
- Diversify revenue beyond current sources, building out annual giving, major gifts, monthly giving, corporate sponsorship, planned giving and grants as appropriate.
- Identify, cultivate and solicit major donor and corporate prospects directly, this is a role that fund raises personally, not only through a team.
- Set and monitor the fund development budget, including revenue projections, expense management and return on investment by campaign and channel.
- Bring data and donor insight into decision-making, using giving trends and donor behavior to sharpen strategy rather than relying on instinct alone.
A capital campaign is a different animal from annual fundraising, longer timeline, bigger asks, higher stakes. This is the person who builds that engine from the ground up.
- Lead the planning and execution of the organization’s capital campaign, including feasibility assessment, case for support, campaign structure and timeline.
- Build and manage a campaign cabinet or leadership committee of volunteers and community leaders.
- Identify and personally cultivate lead and major gift prospects for the campaign.
- Report campaign progress to the Executive Director and Board, including risk factors and course corrections.
Recurring, predictable revenue is what lets the organization plan ahead instead of reacting quarter to quarter. This is where that stability gets built.
- Design and oversee annual giving campaigns, including direct mail, digital and email appeals.
- Develop donor stewardship strategy across all giving levels, ensuring donors are retained, upgraded and meaningfully thanked.
- Set segmentation and moves management practices so donor relationships are tracked and nurtured systematically, not ad hoc.
