Senior Environmental Consultant – Contaminated Sites & Environmental Risk Assessment
Join a Growing Team Making a Real Impact in Alberta. EBM Geoscience Inc. is hiring a Senior Environmental Consultant specializing in contaminated site assessment and environmental risk assessment. We’re a Calgary-based firm with a growing portfolio of projects across Alberta and a need for experienced personnel to support project plans, technical reviews, and reporting. If you’re a senior environmental professional seeking meaningful work with greater autonomy, we’d love to hear from you.
WhatYou’ll Do
You’ll take on a central role in technical oversight and project delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing historical environmental reports and technical submissions
- Interpreting soil and groundwater chemistry data, including spatial analysis and contouring using Surfer software
- Developing and reviewing site investigation and remediation plans
- Reviewing and editing risk‑based Phase II and III ESA reports
- Supporting regulatory submissions through Alberta’s One Stop platform
- Collaborating with field staff
- Contributing to project management and risk‑based decision making
- 10+ years of experience in contaminated site assessment and/or environmental risk assessment
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, hydrogeology, toxicology, or a related field
- Registration with one of Alberta’s six regulated professional organizations (e.g. P.Biol., P.Geo., P.Ag., etc.)
- The ideal candidate would be trained, certified, and have experience using the Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST) for Tier 2 site assessments
- Ability to interpret and visualize subsurface data (e.g. contouring groundwater elevations, salinity mapping)
- Strong writing, communication, and critical thinking skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort working with environmental chemistry datasets
- A collaborative and solutions‑focused mindset
We specialize in risk‑based environmental site management for oil and gas sites with a particular focus on Tier 2 assessments, regulatory strategy, and site closure. If you bring experience with the SST, you’ll be stepping into a role where that expertise is highly valued and frequently applied. We support our team with internal mentorship and cross‑training in Alberta’s evolving regulatory framework, including:
- Tier 2 Exclusion and Modification Protocols
- The SST — for salinity delineation, Tier 2 guideline development, and remediation performance assessment
- The Native Prairie Protocol (NPP)
At EBM, you’ll be part of a close‑knit team that prioritizes technical quality, efficiency, and practical solutions, with opportunities to help shape both projects and company direction.
Flexible Work OptionsWe understand the value of work‑life balance and experienced professionals. That’s why we offer:
- Remote or hybrid work options (Calgary‑based preferred, but not required)
- Flexible engagement models — full‑time, part‑time, or contract
- A supportive and collaborative environment that encourages professional autonomy and growth
