We are seeking an Environmental Technician to support environmental assessment, remediation, reclamation, and drilling waste management programs associated with upstream oil and gas developments across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

This position is primarily based in Calgary, with regular field work at project sites across Alberta and Saskatchewan. The successful candidate will support environmental field programs, collect and analyze environmental data, and prepare technical documentation in accordance with applicable provincial environmental regulations.

This role is suited for candidates with prior hands‑on experience in environmental field programs who are comfortable working with limited supervision.

Salary: $37.00 per hour (40 hours per week)

Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental field investigations including soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling
  • Assist in coordinating and carrying out Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and Detailed Site Assessments (DSA)
  • Support remediation programs, including excavation, soil management, and land treatment activities
  • Monitor contractor activities during drilling, excavation, and remediation programs to ensure compliance with environmental and safety requirements
  • Collect, document, and maintain accurate field data, including field notes, sampling records, and site documentation
  • Review and interpret laboratory analytical results in accordance with applicable environmental guidelines
  • Prepare and contribute to technical reports including environmental site assessments, remediation reports, and reclamation documentation
  • Support drilling waste management activities, including coordination of waste handling, sampling, tracking, and disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Assist with coordination of field programs, including contractor scheduling, equipment preparation, and logistics
  • Ensure compliance with provincial environmental regulations and company health and safety procedures
Education
  • Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Biology, or a related field
Experience
  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in environmental field work or environmental consulting
  • Experience supporting environmental site assessments (Phase I and Phase II preferred)
  • Experience working on upstream oil and gas sites is considered an asset
  • Experience supporting drilling waste management programs is considered an asset
Skills & Technical Knowledge
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling and site assessment methodologies
  • Ability to interpret environmental data and prepare technical reports with limited supervision
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of environmental liability considerations associated with upstream oil and gas sites in Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Familiarity with applicable provincial regulatory frameworks including Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), Alberta Environment and Protected Areas, and Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources
  • Experience applying provincial soil and groundwater quality guidelines and reclamation criteria is considered an asset
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote field locations across Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and field environments
