Job Summary
SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company seeks a highly motivated and experienced Biologist to join the Environmental Planning and Management (EPM) Division, based out of our Lloydminster, Alberta office. Reporting to the EPM divisional Project Manager, the role leads diverse environmental planning projects in the energy sector, combining field and office work.
What to ExpectThe successful candidate will focus on pre‑development baseline environmental assessments and environmental monitoring within the energy sector. Duties include permitting and approvals, regular reporting, site observations, environmental assessments, and recommendations. The role also mentors team members and ensures safety, quality, cost efficiency and timeliness of project deliverables.
Requirements:
Safety‑first attitude, initiative, ownership in a fast‑paced multidisciplinary team, familiarity with local wildlife and vegetation, and a willingness to travel across western Canada.
- Participate in/oversee regulatory compliance for pre‑development baseline environmental projects (Environmental Planning).
- Lead site identification and monitoring initiatives (wildlife, rare plants, wetlands, and aquatic/fisheries assessments).
- Report project status daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
- Provide technical expertise in regulated/prescribed surveys, detection and mitigation measures.
- Prepare technical reporting and regulatory submissions (EPEA, Water Act, PCRA, etc.).
- Conduct environmental field assessments following regulated protocols (wetlands, terrestrial, aquatics, soils).
- Manage commitments for on‑site construction projects (EI/EM).
- Sign off on technical findings (professional designation considered an asset).
- Consult and engage with multi‑disciplinary technical team for project support.
- Participate in Summit’s safety culture.
- University degree or diploma in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of direct consulting or environmental industry experience.
- Familiarity with wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, and aquatic/fisheries assessments.
- Understanding of Water Act submissions, RTFs, and related regulations.
- Experience on active construction sites observing contractors and environmental impacts.
- Ability to travel to remote locations for extended periods.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional organization.
