Dillon’s Natural Resource Management Discipline is seeking a Soil Scientist / Agrologist to fill an existing vacancy within our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Location:

Calgary (or any Dillon office where the project is based).

Responsibilities
  • Lead field surveys and environmental monitoring across western and northern Canada to collect baseline soil and terrain data, classify and map sites, and conduct Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments, Pre‑disturbance Site Assessments, and Detailed Site Assessments.
  • Prepare technical reports and memos related to Environmental Impact Assessments as required.
  • Contribute to environmental investigations, research, field work, and report writing.
  • Collaborate with project managers, biologists, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists.
  • Work weekends as required.
  • Travel overnight for long periods of time.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in surficial geology, soil sciences, agrology, ecology or a related environmental sciences field.
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in environmental consulting and/or related work experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Agrologist in BC, AB or SK, or ability to obtain registration within one year of hire.
  • Registration as a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control is an asset.
  • Ability to obtain Reliability security status (e.g., five‑year address history, criminal record check) for federal government contracts.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Experience
  • Demonstrated experience and skill with field testing methods and ability to characterize and classify soils (CSSC, 3rd Edition) of the Grassland, Parkland, Rocky Mountain and Boreal Forest Natural Regions of British Columbia, Alberta and/or Saskatchewan.
  • Familiarity with standard industry practices in soil conservation, handling and reclamation measures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Aptitude to learn.
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and permitting requirements (considered an asset).
  • Commitment to project quality and project deadlines.
