Responsibilities- Conduct field data collection for vegetation and rare plant surveys.
- Prepare technical reports and regulatory applications for environmental planning and permitting.
- Travel up to 80% of the time for fieldwork, primarily in remote locations across Western Canada.
- Work as a lead team member on rare plant surveys, including challenging groups such as grasses, sedges, and willows.
- Interpret aerial imagery using web‑based or desktop platforms.
- Maintain a strong safety culture while working on site.
- B.Sc. in biology, botany, ecology, environmental sciences, or equivalent post‑secondary diploma or experience.
- Vascular plant identification skills sufficient to lead rare plant surveys.
- 2‑5 years of professional experience conducting vegetation surveys, ideally involving rare plants.
- Strong field skills and willingness to work in remote areas for extended periods.
- Aerial imagery interpretation experience within a web browser or desktop platform.
- A driver’s licence and a clean driver’s abstract.
- Knowledge of ecological land classification (ELC, TEM) and wetland classification schemas.
- Experience with pre‑ and post‑construction reclamation assessments across Western Canada.
- Understanding of common soil characteristics and classification.
- Experience using mobile apps such as Esri Field Maps or Survey 123 for field data collection.
- Experience reviewing digitally collected field data in a web browser or desktop solution.
- Professional experience in environmental consulting or a related field.
- Familiarity with ecological communities in Western Canada, particularly northern, coastal and interior BC, and boreal, parkland and grassland AB.
- Possession or pursuit of a P.Biol. or R.P.Bio. designation.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in supporting other biophysical study areas such as wetlands, wildlife, soils and fisheries assessments.
- Experience with linear development construction programs.
- Bryophyte or lichen identification skills are an asset.
The base salary range for this position is $66,300.00 to $, reflecting the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across British Columbia. Pay is determined by location and additional factors such as job‑related skills, experience and relevant education or training.
