Intermediate Aquatic Biologist/Environmental Professional

Type of position: Regular.
Your future role on our teamAs an intermediate environmental professional, you will support a wide range of project development and execution projects in the industrial sector, including biophysical evaluations, impact studies, approval and permit applications. As an intermediate aquatic biologist, you’ll perform various tasks within a multidisciplinary team and coordinate your work with project managers to deliver mandates.

- Support project managers in preparing proposals, including strategies, work plans, budgets, and more.
- Help deliver fish and fish habitat assessments and related studies as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Support and lead long‑term aquatic monitoring programs.
- Lead and participate in field surveys.
- Develop methodologies, prepare sampling plans, and ensure data entry.
- Lead or draft inventory reports, effects assessments, baseline studies, and authorisation requests submitted to government agencies for development projects.
- Ensure project budgets and schedules are met.
- Maintain effective and constructive relationships with other BBA team members.
- Promote BBA’s environmental services internally and externally to current and potential clients.
- Participate in innovation efforts by developing new services and communication initiatives within the Environment group.

- Master’s degree (thesis‑based) in an environment‑related field.
- 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in delivering environmental projects (schedule, planning, work execution).
- Professional designation or qualified to acquire one (e.g., Professional Biologist, Biologist in Training, etc. in AB or equivalent in BC).
- Experience with field surveys (fish/aquatics, characterization of water ecosystems, etc.).
- Experience operating watercraft and trailering.
- Experience electrofishing.
- Good writing skills.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite, R programming language and statistical analysis/modelling.
- Calgary‑based or willing to relocate to Calgary.
- Asset: knowledge and understanding of GIS software.
