Clifton is currently seeking an Aquatic Biologist to join our Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary or Edmonton office.

As an Aquatic Biologist, you will be a reliable, knowledgeable, and valued member of our Environmental practice team. You will focus on providing aquatic biological support to environmental projects, managing projects, and mentoring junior-level biologists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead fish and fish habitat investigations following established protocols.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for provincial and federal regulatory submissions.
  • Support efforts to obtain environmental approvals for projects, including regulatory liaison.
  • Provide advice and guidance on environmental management as well as environmental compliance issues.
  • Effectively manage projects, including management of subcontractors, progress, budget, schedule and quality.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor junior biology professionals to promote a high level of technical competence and create an environment of continuous improvement and learning.
  • Support business development initiatives by building and nurturing client relationships, contributing to proposal pursuits, and actively developing opportunities for growth within your area of practice.
  • Maintain positive client relations, regularly monitoring to ensure clients requirements are met.
  • Adhere to Clifton’s Health and Safety and Quality Management programs in project delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, or Environment from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) plus years of relevant progressive environmental consulting experience including aquatic surveys, environmental impact assessment and permitting, and construction environmental management experience.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Biologist in Alberta (PBio) or BC (RPBio).
  • Familiarity and demonstrated experience with species detection survey protocols and environmental assessment processes in Saskatchewan and or Alberta.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor technical and professional staff at different levels of career development.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently on site, outside and in remote locations for periods of time, tolerating variable weather conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, in the context of work/life balance.
  • Knowledge of and experience with project management fundamentals including cost control, scope management, and scheduling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Provide reliable, value-added service to our clients with continual improvement.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment, conducting oneself in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Must have valid Class 5 Driver’s License and provide a clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Continued attention to safety and safe work environments, with a strong workplace safety orientation.
