The Junior Groundwater Specialist supports the delivery of hydrogeological, groundwater supply, and contaminated sites projects within MEMS’ Water Resource service group. This role assists project teams by applying foundational hydrogeological knowledge, while developing practical skills through field and office-based work. A strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous learning is essential in this role.

The position contributes to project execution by assisting with data collection, organization, and basic interpretation; supporting the development of conceptual site models; and participating in field programs such as groundwater monitoring, groundwater exploration, sampling, and aquifer testing. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the Junior Groundwater Specialist builds technical competency, contributes to team objectives, and supports positive client outcomes, while aligning with MEMS’ core values of Service, Quality, Trust, Innovation, and Teamwork

Key Accountabilities Project Support and Execution
  • Assist with hydrogeological and environmental projects, including groundwater monitoring, groundwater exploration, data collection, and support for contaminated sites work.
  • Support the planning and execution of field programs, including groundwater sampling, water level monitoring, and water source well and monitoring well drilling and installation activities.
  • Follow established procedures and safety protocols to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with MEMS and client requirements.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and assist with tracking project activities and progress.
Data Collection and Basic Analysis
  • Assist with the compilation, organization, and review of hydrogeological data.
  • Support interpretation of site data under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Contribute to the development of conceptual site understanding through data review and team discussions.
Reporting and Documentation
  • Assist in the preparation a high-quality technical report with clear interpretation of findings and recommendations.
  • Support the preparation of regulatory submissions and client deliverables and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in all written and recorded project information.
Field Program Coordination
  • Participate in field programs including groundwater sampling, water level monitoring, and water source well and monitoring well drilling and installation activities.
  • Assist with field logistics, equipment preparation, and daily documentation.
  • Follow health, safety, and environmental requirements during all field activities.
Team Collaboration and Development
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Learn from senior staff through both field and office-based activities.
  • Seek opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.
Continuous Improvement and Growth
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices, regulations, and emerging technologies.
  • Contribute to the development of technical capabilities within the service group.
  • Support business development initiatives through quality project delivery and client service.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Experience in hydrogeology with previous internship or one to two years of experience in a hydrogeological related industry.
  • Knowledge and experience with relevant provincial and federal legislation and familiarity with the environmental assessment process would be an asset.
  • Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing, and
  • possess a valid Class 5 Drivers license.

Skills And Abilities
  • Good communications and organizational skills;
  • Understanding of the oil & gas and oil sands industry;
  • Understanding of groundwater exploration and aquifer evaluation methods would be an asset;
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills, organizational abilities;
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and be able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary setting; and
