Soil Scientist
Play an integral role in Worley Consulting’s Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) team, where science, sustainability, and project delivery come together to help clients responsibly develop, manage, and restore natural resources. As a Soil Scientist, you will contribute to a broad range of environmental and reclamation projects across Alberta and Western Canada, supporting clients in the energy, industrial, mining, infrastructure, and resource sectors.
This role offers the opportunity to apply technical expertise in soils, vegetation, reclamation, and environmental assessment while working alongside multidisciplinary specialists committed to delivering practical, sustainable solutions.
Purpose of the role
As a Soil Scientist
, you will support the successful delivery of environmental and reclamation projects by providing field and technical expertise related to soil classification, soil conservation, vegetation assessment, reclamation planning, and contaminated site investigations. You will help clients meet regulatory requirements, advance land stewardship objectives, and support responsible environmental management throughout the project lifecycle.
Working closely with environmental scientists, biologists, agrologists, engineers, project managers, regulators, contractors, and clients, you will contribute to high-quality technical studies, field programs, and reporting activities that drive project success while maintaining Worley's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and environmental sustainability.
Location:
This is a full-time position. The role includes a combination of office-based work, field assignments, and travel to project sites throughout Alberta and other regions as required. Field schedules may involve extended workdays and overnight travel depending on project requirements and seasonal field programs.
You will be responsible for
- Conducting soil survey, soil classification, soil conservation, and soil salvage assessments in accordance with applicable regulatory and industry standards.
- Supporting reclamation programs through Detailed Site Assessments, reclamation monitoring, data collection, analysis, and technical reporting.
- Assisting with vegetation and wetland assessments, including species identification, ecological site characterization, and habitat evaluations.
- Participating in contaminated site investigations and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including drilling oversight, borehole logging, soil sampling, groundwater monitoring, and environmental data collection.
- Preparing technical reports, field summaries, regulatory documentation, and supporting environmental permit and compliance requirements.
- Evaluating laboratory analytical results and performing quality assurance and quality control reviews of environmental data.
- Coordinating field logistics, equipment procurement, contractor services, and site requirements to support efficient project execution.
- Providing field supervision and oversight of contractors and subcontractors while ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety requirements.
- Supporting multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality environmental consulting services for clients across a variety of industry sectors.
