We are currently looking to add Hydrovac Swampers to our growing team, based in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Hydrovac Supervisor, the Hydrovac Swamper supports the Hydrovac Operator on job sites by helping with safe and efficient excavation around underground utilities. This includes handling hoses, cleaning equipment, and keeping the work area safe and organized. The role requires physical work in all weather conditions and a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and following instructions
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist with Hydrovac Excavation Activities
Support the Hydrovac Operator in performing safe and efficient excavations around underground utilitiesHandle hoses and other hydrovac equipment on siteAssist with debris disposal and backfilling as requiredFollow directions promptly during excavation to maintain safety and efficiency2. Safety and Compliance
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)Follow company safety procedures and Alberta OH&S regulationsComplete required safety training and site-specific orientationsIdentify and report hazards and unsafe conditions immediately3. Equipment and Site Maintenance
Assist in daily inspection and maintenance of tools, hoses, and hydrovac unitsKeep work areas clean, organized, and free of obstructionsSupport regular housekeeping of equipment and vehicles4. Teamwork and Communication
Communicate effectively with the Hydrovac Operator and other crew membersContribute to a respectful and team-oriented work environmentBe prepared to support other tasks as assigned on-siteRemain adaptable to changing work environments, weather, and project demands5. Documentation Support
Assist in recording site activities or completing basic field paperwork as neededHelp ensure daily reports, safety logs, and client forms are completed accuratelyRequirements
Basic understanding of hydrovac operations and general job site safety practicesAbility to accurately follow both verbal and written instructionsStrong situational awareness and the ability to work safely around underground utilitiesPhysically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, working in confined spaces, and performing duties in various weather conditionsGood communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members and supervisorsWillingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as requiredTeam-oriented with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and performanceMinimum of 2–4 years of relevant experience, preferably in a hydrovac or construction-related roleBenefits
