POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting for a 1 st Year Apprentice Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic to work at our Calgary, AB location (9423 Shepard Road SE , Calgary, AB) . As a Refrigeration Mechanic Apprentice in your first year, you will play a crucial role in learning and developing the skills necessary to become a skilled and competent refrigeration mechanic.

Under the guidance and supervision of experienced refrigeration mechanics, you will assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of refrigeration systems.

This apprenticeship will provide you with hands-on training and knowledge to support your growth in the field of refrigeration mechanics.

This role requires a strong technical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Apprentice rates are determined based on Apprentice's tenure.

The rate for 1st year Apprentices is $27.90 (depending on supplemental rates/premiums).

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI): ON THE TOOLS (Weighting 70%) Assist in Equipment Installation Assist experienced technicians in the installation of refrigeration systems and equipment.

Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications.

Assist in assembling, connecting, and testing refrigeration components.

Perform Maintenance & Repairs Assist in routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, and lubricating moving parts.

Learn to diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration system issues under the guidance of experienced technicians.

Assist in repairing or replacing faulty components, such as compressors, condensers, and evaporators.

Assist experienced refrigeration mechanics in the installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial refrigeration systems.

Assist with assembling, disassembling, and testing refrigeration system components.

LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT (Weighting 20%) On-The-Job Training Actively participate in on-the-job training and learning sessions.

Seek opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in refrigeration mechanics through training programs and certifications.

Follow instructions and guidance from experienced technicians to develop expertise in the field.

Gain knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, including components, controls, and operation principles.

Develop an understanding of refrigeration tools, equipment, and maintenance procedures.

Teamwork & Collaboration Collaborate effectively with other team members, including mechanics, supervisors, and other appreciates.

Follow instructions from experienced mechanics and actively participate in team meetings and discussions.

Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.

Professional Development Continuously seek opportunities for learning and self-improvement in the field of industrial refrigeration.

Stay updated on new technologies, industry best practices, and emerging trends.

Attend relevant workshops, seminars, or courses to enhance skills and knowledge.

COMPLIANCE (Weighting 10%) Health & Safety Compliance Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Learn and practice proper handling and disposal of refrigerants and hazardous materials.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures while working with refrigeration systems.

Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.

Assist in preparing service reports and documenting equipment inspections.

Provide updates and feedback to the supervising technicians on work progress and any issues encountered.
