Job Description
Under general supervision, performs systematic inspections, overhauls of component parts, performs preventive maintenance routines and other related duties on light or heavy vehicles to determine the cause of failure, analyses and recommends the course of repair required, verifies the adequacy of completed repair work and certifies vehicles as roadworthy. Verifies work done by contractors and certifies that repairs performed are safe, roadworthy, reliable and within specifications recommended by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), provincial legislation or Canada Post requirements.
Job Responsibilities- Performs maintenance and repairs on light or heavy vehicles (as per certification).
- Conducts other maintenance facility activities such as parts ordering, receiving, stocking and shipping; takes calls and notes required actions.
- Inspects light or heavy vehicles within Canada Post fleet and completes the necessary documentation in accordance with Canada Post and government inspections (Municipal, Provincial, and Federal).
- Completes quality‑control inspections by examining and testing repaired vehicles to ensure repairs have been satisfactorily completed, according to provincial and Canada Post specifications, and certifies roadworthiness before releasing back to Operations.
- Performs in‑shop or on‑road repairs on light or heavy vehicles as directed by the maintenance supervisor or mechanic lead within OEM or Canada Post specifications.
- Maintains hand tools and shop equipment to a safe and reliable standard.
- Escalates any problems by completing the appropriate reports.
- Provides input and support as required to front‑line operations on operating requirements, vehicles, and driver habits.
- Adheres to all Health and Safety and Environment policies and procedures by keeping the work area clean and free of hazards in support of a safe and healthy work place.
- Replaces or overhauls defective parts with new components using mechanic hand tools, power tools and related automotive shop equipment.
- Moves light or heavy vehicles and performs other related duties as required.
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent (as per provincial requirements).
- Graduate of technical/apprenticeship program for Automotive Service Technician (light vehicles under 4,500 kg) or Truck and Coach Technician (heavy equipment/vehicles over 4,500 kg) with an accrediting qualification in one of these classes of vehicles.
- Must hold appropriate valid certification for the maintenance and repair of light or heavy vehicles recognized in the province of employment.
- Must be currently in the trade.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Valid provincial driver licence, with driver abstract meeting current corporate requirements.
- Appropriate licence to operate heavy vehicles, if required in the province of employment.
