What You'll Do
Reporting to the Journeyperson Electrician, the role of Electrician Apprentice is to install new and maintain low and high voltage equipment in a substation. Under this role the Electrician Apprentice will gain hands‑on experience with the installation of ground grids, structural steel erection, and the repair and assembly of power system equipment. The Electrician Apprentice is responsible for assisting with the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of high voltage transformers and all other related equipment on a substation.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in day‑to‑day activities involved with substation construction.
- Work with high voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switches, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, P&C equipment, SCADA systems, HMI, and RTUs.
- Install time‑sensitive network and power cabling, including connection, location, and documentation of all circuits as required.
- Perform preventive equipment maintenance; scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency requests.
- Perform maintenance, predictive inspections, and testing on substation equipment.
- Develop work scopes, draft procedures and perform routine repairs.
- Comply with Rising Edge Technologies operating and maintenance safe work practices, procedures and standards.
- Develop and maintain test and maintenance reports while working under Journeyman PSE/Electrician.
- Work with Journeyman Electrician to install ground grids, power system equipment assembly, and erection of structural steel.
This position is designated as safety‑sensitive, making employment contingent upon successful completion of pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks.
Schedule- Schedule rotations range from 4 days on / 3 days off, 8 days on / 6 days off, 14 days on / 7 days off, etc.
- Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.).
- Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week.
- Out‑of‑town work includes either all‑inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent).
- Inducted into Electrical or PSE trade.
- Knowledge of the Electrical Utility Code (E.U.C Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety rules as they relate to the Electrician role.
- Valid Provincial Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office and computer‑based test equipment is an asset.
- Must meet pre‑access drug & alcohol testing requirements.
- Must be able to work comfortably at heights.
