Position Summary
The Apprentice Collision Body Technician supports the collision center by learning and assisting with structural, body, and cosmetic vehicle repairs in an OEM‑certified environment. Under the guidance of senior technicians and the Body Shop Foreman, this role develops foundational skills in teardown, repair methods, metalwork, part installation, and vehicle reassembly. The apprentice follows OEM procedures and safety standards while progressing through hands‑on training, mentorship, and formal technical education through a provincially recognized educational facility.
Responsibilitiesand Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior technicians with vehicle teardowns, damage assessments, and repair planning.
- Learn and perform basic body repair tasks, including part removal/installation, sanding, grinding, and minor metalwork.
- Support blueprinting by documenting damage, taking photographs, and helping identify repair requirements.
- Prepare vehicles for body repair and paint processes, including panel preparation and masking.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Follow OEM repair procedures, safety protocols, and shop standards at all times.
- Coordinate with technicians, estimators, and parts personnel to support efficient workflow.
- Participate in ongoing training and development (OEM certifications, ICAR courses, apprenticeship programs).
- Assist with quality checks and reassembly under direction from senior technicians or the Foreman.
- All other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
- Interest in becoming a Red Seal Collision Repair Technician.
- Prior automotive or mechanical experience is an asset but not required.
- Basic understanding of vehicle components and repair processes preferred.
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to manage physical demands, including lifting, standing, and using tools/equipment.
- Enrollment in or willingness to enroll in a recognized collision apprenticeship program.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
CAD $20.00 - CAD $25.00 /Hr.
