Killam Apartment REIT, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is one of Canada's largest residential real estate investment trusts, owning, operating, and developing a $5.5 billion portfolio of apartments and manufactured home communities. Killam's strategy to drive value and profitability focuses on three priorities: (1) increase earnings from the existing portfolio; (2) expand the portfolio and diversify geographically through accretive acquisitions, targeting newer properties and dispositions of non-core assets;

and (3) develop high-quality properties in its core markets.

We are currently searching for a Lead Hand to join our team in Calgary, AB. This is an exciting and challenging position in a growth-oriented organization. If you are a team player with proven ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment this may be the opportunity for you.

What you will do:
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding and hardware;
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences;
  • General maintenance and/or painting;
  • Knowledge of plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry, etc.;
  • Participation in an on-call rotation;
  • Distribute work orders;
  • Coordinate and supervise maintenance staff to address property needs;
  • Work with property managers and outside contractors;
  • Obtain quotes on behalf of Maintenance and Project Managers;
  • Maintain a safe and economical operation of all systems and equipment;
  • Coach and provide feedback to staff;
  • Other duties, as required.
Who you are:
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Ability to work as a team, and also under minimal supervision;
  • Effective, proven skills and experience;
  • Renovations experience an asset;
  • Plumbing, electrical, or HVAC experience an asset;
  • Must have a valid Alberta driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
