Station Technician In-Charge (English Services) (On-Site)

Your role

CBC News seeks a Station Technician In-Charge to lead technical operations at our proposed new production facilities in Calgary. You will oversee all technical aspects of media production—including live broadcasting, user technology support, news gathering equipment, and facility management. This role is a key opportunity to help build a state-of-the-art broadcast facility using the latest technology and workflows.

You will combine superior technical expertise with strong interpersonal, mentoring, and communication skills. As a proactive problem-solver, you will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment, working independently or as part of a team while fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace. You bring a genuine passion for news and understanding of Alberta’s evolving political and economic landscape to our production team.

Key Tasks

• Maintain deep knowledge of production installations and associated equipment.

• Replace and configure essential technology, including mics, desktop PCs, cables, iPhones, monitors, prompters, and lighting cameras

• Direct remote troubleshooting and infrastructure repairs for telephone, network, and Broadcast systems.

• Provide ongoing support and training for Calgary and Alberta staff

• Onboard new staff members.

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and incident management for the location.

• Coordinate remote activation support, including site surveys and technical recommendations.

• Support studio operations as a back-up floor director.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Project Managers during facility project phases.

• Serve as the site contact for security and health and safety requirements.

• Manage local fleet vehicles, including maintenance and parking assignments.

• Partner with the Regional Support Supervisor for Alberta to maintain technology and news gathering equipment.

• Assist BGIS with building-related matters and support third-party contractors when the local BGIS technician is unavailable.

• Ensure adherence to all CBC technical standards and operational practices.

Education Required

Requires a diploma in Radio or Television Arts from a community college, or equivalent industry experience.
