Job Description

Under the direction of the Special Education Director, the Special Education Cooridnator is responsible for ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and/or regulations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The individual must possess a knowledge of best practices in specal education and a strong understanding of special education policies, laws, and regulations. The Special Education Coordinator will plan and work with staff to evaluate special education programs and services and act as a liason;

organize and maintain electronic files; manage projects; ansd disseminate information. In addition, the Special Education Coordiantor assists in the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of programs for students with disabilities; responsible fo the coordination of special education programs and related services within respective assignments of possible reevaluations, assistive technology, special transportation,IEP implementation, autism programs, and others as assigned.

Functions and Responsibilities
  • Prepares documentation and reports data to the Georgia Department of Education for the purpose of conveying information and complying with Federal and State Law.
  • Possesses knowledge of research-based best practices in special education.
  • Shares knowledge and experience of best practices for conducting successful evaluation and IEP meetings.
  • Maintains knowledge of effective progress monitoring tools, strategies, and record keeping.
  • Works independently, prioritizes taks appropriately, and meets critical deadlines.
  • Processes policies, procedures, and practices related to progress monitoring, student evaluations, eligibility requirements, and special education placement.
  • Estabishes and maintains posititve, effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Motivates, trains, directs, and supervises staff.
  • Coordinates, plans, and develops intructional programs and monitors delivery of services to students with disabilities.
  • Provides professional learning, including new special education teacher training.
  • Ensures due process.
  • Coordinates hospital homebound sevices for special eduction students.
  • Asssists with FTE collection and student scheduling based on IEPs.
  • Serves as a special education resource to schools, families, and stakeholders.
  • Works with Behavior Specialists and interventionists to support students.
  • Provides Mindset training.
  • Coordinates and supports extended school year program, home school services, and incarcerated student services.
  • Observes students and collects data to develop Functional Behavior Assessments.
  • Supports Assessment Coordinator and teachers who administer Georgia Alternate Assessment.
  • Oversees district assistive technology team.
  • Updates IDEA inventory and maintains accurate documentaion.
  • Performs other assignments as designated by Director of Special Education.
License and Certification Qualifications

Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Preferred qualifications

Degree in educational leadership with a minimum of three years teaching in the field of special education or related field.
