Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Master’s Degree required, Specialist preferred; minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience or providing services (i.e., Speech Therapy, School Psychology) to students with disabilities required.
Certification/Licensing: Valid Georgia teacher's certificate;
Leadership Certification or coaching endorsement (preferred)
Goal
This position will provide targeted support, guidance, and monitoring to ensure district-wide compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing special education and related services. Working collaboratively with the ESS Director and Specialist, this position supports schools through coaching, technical assistance, data review, and compliance monitoring to strengthen systems, build staff capacity, and improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
Representative Duties & Responsibilities
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:
- Oversees and monitors IEP development, Progress Monitoring, IEP team meetings, and the quality of IEP documents and of IEP team meetings.
- Provides professional development and support to ESS teachers on IEP development, progress monitoring, and IEP implementation.
- Serves as the LEA (Local Education Agency) representative at IEP meetings when necessary or upon request of the ESS Director.
- Monitors the dashboard for the electronic IEP program and collaborates with the ESS administrative assistant on electronic IEP program needs.
- Supports the implementation and monitoring of compliance with IDEA, Section 504, state regulations, and district policies.
- Assists in conducting compliance reviews, file audits, and program evaluations to ensure required timeline, documentation, and procedures are met.
- Supports corrective action planning and follow-up for findings related to audits, complaints, or monitoring activities. Monitor data related to IEP implementation, evaluations, eligibility, service delivery, and procedural safeguards.
- Provides coaching and job-embedded support to administrators, special education teachers, related service providers, and school teams regarding compliance requirements and best practices.
- Assists schools in developing systems and processes that promote consistent and compliant practices.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional growth through keeping current with special education regulations, reviewing literature, and attending appropriate meetings and conferences.
- Contributes to the leadership team at the System and ESS levels through collaboration and participation.
- Facilitates and helps support FTE data collection (FTE count, scheduling, environmental calculator).
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Supports onboarding and ongoing training for new special education staff and administrators.
- Assists with maintaining accurate compliance documentation and reports for district, state, and federal review.
- Supports preparation for audits, monitoring visits, and required submissions to the state department of education.
- Maintains confidentiality and compliance with FERPA and other applicable privacy laws.
- Has a strong understanding of special education law and compliance requirements.
- Ability to communicate well with school personnel, parents, students, and central office staff while complying with the confidentiality requirements in local, state, and federal policies (oral and written communication skills).
