Staff Accountant

Location: Van Nuys

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a finance team in California in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys balancing hands-on transactional work with broader accounting support and wants to contribute to accurate, timely financial reporting. The position will partner closely with finance leadership and internal teams to help maintain organized records, support close activities, and strengthen day-to-day accounting operations.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the full accounts payable cycle by reviewing invoices, assigning appropriate coding, and entering transactions accurately into the accounting system.

- Reconcile bank activity and assist with balancing cash accounts to ensure financial records remain complete and current.

- Track prepaid expenses, update supporting schedules, and record amortization entries in alignment with accounting guidelines.

- Support general ledger activity by preparing and reviewing entries while maintaining proper debit and credit treatment across accounts.

- Provide day-to-day accounting and administrative assistance related to overhead spending and other operational finance needs.

- Contribute to month-end close by preparing reconciliations, organizing support documentation, and helping resolve account discrepancies.

- Work with colleagues across departments to gather financial information and promote timely, accurate reporting.

- Assist with accounts receivable processes and related accounting tasks as needed to support the broader finance function. Requirements - Experience in staff accounting or a similar accounting role with responsibility for core transactional and general ledger activities.

- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.

- Ability to complete bank reconciliations and investigate variances with accuracy and sound judgment.

- Familiarity with prepaid expense accounting and account reconciliation processes during monthly close.

- Understanding of debit and credit application and standard accounting principles in a corporate environment.

- Exposure to corporate tax return support is preferred.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
