Definition

Under general supervision, performs a variety of clerical and support duties in the Trinity County Corrections Facility; enters all pertinent information into the computerized booking system; operates and monitors communications and security equipment, logs movement throughout the facility, controls access to the facility; and performs related duties as assigned.
Examples of Important and Essential Duties

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

Processes new inmates by gathering inmate and arrest information including on bail bonds and entering into computerized booking system and Canteen; gathers information for housing purposes; provides inmates with list of possessions and information on charges and bail amounts; registers in phone system.
Monitors surveillance cameras to ensure safety of staff and inmates; operates control board to open and close doors in accordance with security and safety policies and procedures; monitors and logs all movement through the corrections facilities.
Operates designated exterior and interior gates, sally ports, and vehicle gates; ensure only authorized vehicles enter the vehicle sally ports and delivery gate; notifies an Intake or other available Deputy that a vehicle is waiting to enter the Corrections Facility.
Maintain permanent, accurate logs appropriate to Central Control including unusual occurrences, counts and daily activities and emergencies.
Initiate and coordinate with EMS during medical emergencies.
Ensure that all staff weapons (e.g. firearms, knives, etc.) are locked in the weapons lockers prior to staff entry into the security area.
Monitor radio traffic and communicate with Deputies and other staff accordingly.
Processes release of inmates upon receipt of authorizing documentation; gathers release documentation and updates records and files accordingly.
Maintains calendar of court appearances.
Screens calls and visitors; assists and directs public to appropriate locations and/or staff; provides general information regarding department policies, procedures, and regulations, including responding appropriately to complaints, requests for information, and requests for service and coordinating work with other County departments and agencies.
Assembles and compiles information for a variety of departmental, state mandated, and statistical reports.
Assists in coordinating booking issues and activities with other County departments and agencies, including the courts; assists in maintaining court and transportation calendar.
Performs other general clerical work as required including but not limited to typing routine reports and correspondence, maintaining logs and lists, copying and filing documents, processing mail and maintaining supply inventory.
Attends training, meetings, and workshops as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills and to ensure that all work is performed in compliance with applicable laws, codes, and policies and procedures.
Ensures work area is clean at all times.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  • Basic functions of law enforcement agencies.
  • Post orders, policies, procedures and directives.
  • Central Control policies and procedures.
  • Emergency procedures and implementation of emergency procedures.
  • Modern office practices, methods and computer equipment and applications related to the work.
  • Basic principles of record keeping.
  • English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and County staff.
Ability to:
  • Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs.
  • Perform responsible clerical support work with accuracy and speed under general supervision.
  • Maintain an accurate, chronological log of the day's movements and events.
  • Learn corrections/detention facility practices and procedures, including the operation of security equipment and booking policies.
  • Learn legal terminology.
  • Learn, understand, interpret and apply pertinent laws, ordinances, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Gather complete, accurate, and relevant information of a personal and confidential nature from written and oral communications.
  • Work effectively under stress and in fast-paced environment; react calmly and professionally in potentially dangerous situations.
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively despite frequent interruptions.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, records, and other written materials.
