Job Overview
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association union, they must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.

Hours of WorkApplicants must be willing to work various shifts as determined by the supervisor.
CompensationThe salary offered will include a 3% increase in January of 2009. Upon successfully passing the initial training period of 6 months, hourly salary will increase by 20%.
Key ResponsibilitiesType various reports, letters, and memoranda, utilizing word processing equipment. Enter data from police reports into various computer systems, including but not limited to NCIC, APSIN, and Tiburon. Compose routine correspondence. Greet the public, both in person and by phone, receive complaints, answer questions, and provide information. Upon receipt of complaints, gather appropriate data, compose, and type appropriate reports. Compute bail on, and process all traffic citations, and parking violations.
Maintain a cash journal for the receipt of all monies for various types of permits, licenses, fees, and bail. Provide court testimony as required. Gather and compile information, and produce various reports as assigned. Perform various filing, copying, sorting, phone, and other clerical duties. Perform other job related duties as assigned.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two years of experience in office and clerical work. Skill to type at a net speed of 35 WPM.
Testing and BackgroundIn order to be considered for positions that require skill to type at a net of 35 WPM, applicants must provide certified proof of typing ability on the day of the testing conducted by the Anchorage Police Department. Initial testing for Police Clerk positions will consist of a Nelson/Denny Reading Comprehension exam. Upon successful completion of the Nelson/Denny, further testing will consist of an assessment interview, and Background Investigation.
Passing results of the Nelson/Denny Reading Comprehension exam are valid for one year from the date of the tests. This test scores/results may be used when applying for other positions within APD. Current APD employees are exempt from the Nelson/Denny Reading Comprehension exam. As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug screening prior to beginning work.
Preference will be given to Anchorage Police Department (APD) employees. APD employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-APD applicants.
Experience utilizing Word, Excel, File Maker Pro, NCIC/APSIN, and Tiburon.
