Clinical Training Officer - SMARTEU

The National Risk and Resilience Department (NRRD) is looking to recruit aClinical Training Officerto join the Scottish Ambulance Service Command Education & Training Team as a full-time embedded member of the Scottish Multi-Agency Resilience Training & Exercising Unit (SMARTEU). The successful applicant will primarily be based at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters in Cambuslang. As the role has a national remit, regular travel throughout Scotland will be required.

The National Risk and Resilience Department provide a comprehensive, effective and robust organisation-wide structure for risk management, integrated emergency planning, business continuity management, infrastructure security, community resilience, strategic operations and specialised operational response. The NRRD team also directly manages and trains the three full-time Specialist Operations Response Teams (SORT).

Reporting to the Education & Training Manager – Command/SMARTEU,the successful candidate will become part of the wider Command Education & Training Team while working as an embedded member of SMARTEU alongside colleagues from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Coastguard and other resilience partners.

The role involves supporting the design, development, delivery and evaluation of high-quality multi-agency education, training and exercising. This includes delivering specialist courses, designing and facilitating discussion-based and live exercises, developing realistic learning scenarios and contributing to continuous improvement across Scotland's resilience community. Working within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment, the successful applicant will play an important role in strengthening interoperability and operational preparedness between partner organisations.

The post holder must be aHealth and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Paramedic with experience of developing, delivering and evaluating education and training within a healthcare or emergency services environment. Experience of supporting digital or online learning development would be advantageous.

Applicants should hold, or be willing to work towards, an appropriate teaching qualification in line with Scottish Ambulance Service requirements and be able to demonstrate a proven track record in curriculum development and educational delivery within a healthcare or emergency services setting.

The successful applicant will provide resilience to the national training and exercising programme delivered through SMARTEU and should possess a sound understanding of major incident response, command structures, the Civil Contingencies framework and the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP) together with associated doctrine and guidance.

You will regularly represent the Scottish Ambulance Service when working with Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, NHS Scotland, the Scottish Government and other resilience partners. The successful candidate will act as a professional ambassador for the Service, building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships while promoting the highest standards of interoperability, professionalism and partnership working.

Major incidents can occur at any time and you might be required to provide a response in the role of Tactical Advisor, or a similar leadership role. The successful applicant could therefore be expected to participate in the formal on-call rota as part of the National Risk and Resilience Department leadership team.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful applicant will be required to handle sensitive information and therefore must be able to obtain Security Clearance (SC). In addition, the SMARTEU element of the post will require successful completion of Police Scotland vetting to enable access to Police Scotland ICT systems used by the unit.
