Calpine Corporation seeks a Business Manager to drive financial and operational performance for its power generation portfolio. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day business operations, lead budgeting and forecasting, and analyze plant and commercial performance using key financial and operational metrics. You will support market and pricing decisions, prepare business cases for capital investments, and partner closely with plant leadership, trading, finance, and regulatory teams.
The Business Manager champions safety, integrity, and accountability while leading continuous improvement initiatives and delivering clear, executive-ready reports in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day business operations for Calpine's regional power assets
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
- Monitor plant and commercial performance using financial and operational KPIs
- Support market bidding, pricing, and portfolio optimization decisions
- Prepare business cases for capital projects and operational improvements
- Collaborate with plant leadership, trading, finance, and regulatory teams
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations
- Lead or support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives
- Provide executive-ready reports, dashboards, and presentations
- Mentor staff and promote a culture of safety, integrity, and accountability
Required Skills
- Financial modeling and forecasting
- Budgeting and variance analysis
- Data analysis and KPI dashboarding (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Understanding of power markets or energy industry economics
