Duties:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Observes and records specific behavioral data as well as targeted goals and objectives as directed by the Teacher. Routinely communicates observations and progress with program staff. Adapts planned activities, materials, and equipment to facilitate participation by special needs children. Helps promote communication, play, and socialization with classmates. Performs required care-giving activities for children as necessary (i.e. feeding, toileting, dressing, etc.) Implements behavior management techniques and monitors progress and effectiveness as directed by the teacher.
Assists staff in implementing curriculum and individualized goals for the special needs children to promote growth and learning in all developmental areas. Encourage parental involvement into the program and maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians in a professional and respectful manner, with confidentiality. Additional classroom duties as assigned by Teacher in conducting day-to-day site activities. Regular and predictable attendance. Perform other relevant duties as assigned Additional Responsibilites Maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver's license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB's automobile insurance.
Position requires occasional over night travel within CRIHB's service area. Requires ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.
Qualifications:
Qualifications CRIHB recognizes that an equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible leadership experience may be considered. A high school diploma or equivalent is required for all applicants. One (1) year experience working with children ages 3-5. Six (6) units in early childhood Education or Child Development preferred. Desire to increase knowledge of normal child growth/development, parent-child relationships, and children with special needs.
Able to demonstrate sound and mature judgment. Ability and knowledge to work with 3-5 year old children and meet Head Start Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality. Write logically, clearly, concisely, and effectively with good grammar. Skills in working with a diverse group of parents/guardians. Self-motivated, ability to work independently and with a team. Current physical exam, negative tuberculosis test, Hep B series I, II, and III as required, CPR, First Aid certification, and criminal background fingerprint clearance, Megan's Law and Trust line.
Cultural Competency This position requires an awareness and a profound respect for American Indian/Alaska Native traditions, customs, and socioeconomic contexts. It also requires the ability to work effectively with Tribal organizations, demonstrating tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.
