Safety & Occupational Health Specialist

You will serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, Institutional Safety Branch. The Branch enhances mission success by providing independent analysis through audits, surveillance and inspections of AFRC facilities, equipment and operations. Ensures Federal OSHA compliance is understood and accomplished for the Center, and the safety of personnel, facilities, equipment and unique fleet of aircraft.

you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:

• Administering and evaluating safety and occupational health programs;
• Providing employee training and safety education; conducting workplace inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with Federal and State standards;
• Evaluating work processes and equipment for potential accidents; and recommending effective risk-control measures.

you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:

• Managing and evaluating safety and occupational health programs; providing employee training and safety education;
• Conducting construction safety oversight and workplace inspections to ensure compliance with State or Federal regulations; reviewing work plans, Safety and Health Plans, and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for high-hazard activities, including confined space, lifting, fall protection, hot work, electrical outages, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO);
• Assessing work processes and equipment for hazards and accident potential; and recommending effective risk-control measures.

will have two or more of the following current license and/or certifications (or equivalent):

• OSHA 30 Hour Occupational Safety and Health
• OSHA 501 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry
• OSHA 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.
• OSHA 2455 Safety and Health Management Program
• Fall Protection Competent Person
• Mishap/Close call Investigations
• Confined Space Competent Person
• Lockout/Tagout Training
• NFPA Complaint Permit Authorizing Individual (PAI) training (Hot work)
• OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety
• FEMA Incident Command Systems 100, 200, 700, 800
