CBS LA has immediate openings for a full-time News writer/Producer to join our Newsroom. The Duopoly (KCBS-TV & KCAL-TV), produces over 90 hours of news each week. You will be a key member of the team, thats critical to the overall CBS LA brand and growth of the station.
We are seeking a dedicated, efficient, accurate and creative writer for this position. Youll write scripts, edit video, create graphics, and assist in the overall production of stories for the Newscasts. This is a Writers Guild of America position and membership in WGA is required.
JOB FUNCTION: Produce daily newscasts and fill-in, when needed, on Newscasts & Cut-Ins Craft compelling news stories using words, pictures, sound, and graphics
Excellent writing skills and copy-editing ability needed
Work closely with producers and managers in the control room with the ability to add to the editorial process in a breaking and live news environment
Build a compelling newscast with high production value in a competitive environment
Generate story ideas and actively participate in editorial meetings
Exhibit strong editorial judgment, effective communication, and critical thinking skills
Understand & use multi-platform tools such as social media & our OTT platforms to reach viewers and deliver news
Other duties and projects as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: At least five years experience, preferably in a top 20 market
News writing, line producing, editing, and storytelling experience
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel to create compelling content
Maintain a steadfast commitment to accuracy and fairness
Ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, quickly changing environment is essential
Strong Tease/Promo writing
Experience with Avid iNEWS, and Grass Valley Edius System a plus
Available to work any shift as assigned in a 24/7 newsroom, including weekends & overnights
