Primary

Purpose:

The High School Principal serves as the instructional leader and chief culture builder of the campus. The principal ensures high levels of student achievement through aligned curriculum implementation, strong instructional systems, strategic talent management, and a safe, student-centered learning environment.

The principal leads continuous improvement aligned to the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS), district strategic goals, and the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP). The role requires building collective efficacy, fostering a culture of high expectations, and ensuring equitable outcomes for all students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree in Educational Administration or related field
Valid Texas Principal or Mid-Management Certification
Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser
Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certification
Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check; non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Required Experience:

Three (3) years’ teaching experience

Three (3) years’ experience as an assistant principal and/or associate principal. (High school preferred)

Knowledge/

Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems
  • Ability to analyze multiple data sources to drive instructional decisions
  • Strong leadership in building positive school culture
  • Ability to manage personnel, budgets, and campus operations

Instructional Leadership

The principal ensures high-quality instruction across all classrooms by:

  • Leading implementation of HQIM aligned to TEKS and district pacing.
  • Monitoring instructional practices through frequent walkthroughs and feedback cycles.
  • Using multiple data sources (MAP, STAAR, benchmarks, formative data) to drive decisions and acceleration.
  • Ensuring PLCs function as high-performing professional learning communities focused on student outcomes.
  • Supporting effective differentiation and intervention systems (MTSS, RTI, acceleration models).
  • Modeling the use of research-based instructional strategies.
  • Ensuring assessment administration systems are secure, aligned, and instructionally useful.
  • Monitoring fidelity of curriculum implementation across all tiers of instruction and alignment to district expectations.
  • Lead and monitor comprehensive CCMR systems to ensure all students graduate college, career, and military ready, including oversight of advanced academics, CTE pathways, industry-based certifications, dual credit, SAT/ACT participation, and personalized graduation planning aligned to accountability indicators.

The principal ensures that instructional systems are coherent, data-driven, and aligned to district academic goals.

Human Capital Management

The principal builds and develops a high-performing staff by:

  • Recruiting, selecting, and retaining highly qualified personnel.
  • Establishing clear performance expectations aligned to T-TESS and district priorities.
  • Providing timely, actionable feedback and coaching.
  • Developing leadership capacity among assistant principals, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders.
  • Creating professional learning plans aligned to student performance needs.
  • Supporting staff growth plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Addressing performance concerns with clarity, urgency, and consistency.
