Steamboat Springs School District is seeking qualified Substitute Paraprofessionals. Ideal candidates will have previous education experience, a desire to work with all students and all grade levels, and be able to work with changing roles on a daily basis. Upon completion of all district employment requirements, a candidate will be considered eligible for active substitute consideration by the schools. This position will substitute in all paraprofessional positions, including special education, preschool and health room.
These positions are active for the current school year only and all will be asked to reapply annually. The District uses AESOP (Absence Management Program)/Frontline for contacting daily Substitute Paraprofessionals on an as-needed basis.
This position is considered a temporary position for the school year and is paid on an hourly basis $26.11 per hour. As a temporary/on call position it is not eligible for benefits. GENERALRESPONSIBILITIES
In the course of a normal day, you may be asked to assist in various capacities. Responsibilities generally include assisting school personnel with daily activities, providing assistance in and out of the classroom, managing traffic control/student crossings, assisting with recess/lunchroom supervision, performing office/clerical duties, working closely with parents, teachers and students, operating various office machines/computers, maintaining a good work record/punctuality, maintaining confidentiality, and performing other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONALRESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE Instructional Support
- Assist students with classroom activities and adaptations to allow each student to participate in the educational process under supervision of a licensed teacher
- Assist teacher in implementing instructional plans in academics with individual IEP goals
- Follow directions and guidelines from professional teaching staff regarding each student’s IEP
- Help students with/without IEPs with daily journal, books, and computer activities
- Modify written or oral directed activities
- Assist with self‑help skills (changing shoes, putting on extra clothes, going to the bathroom, eating, cleaning up, blowing noses, etc.)
- Go to specials (art, music, PE) with Special Needs student
- Work one‑on‑one with Special Needs student(s) when necessary
- Supervise Time‑Out
- Make certain student does not hurt self or others in all situations
- Observe and chart student behavior
- Give positive reinforcement and support
- Manage conflicts between students
- Provide close supervision of behavioral problems
- Prepare materials for activities
- Help prepare and clean up snacks and lunch
- Assist students with health needs
- Supervise students on arrival or departure, during lunch, recess, etc.
- Ability to maintain discipline
- Toilet students when necessary
- Work with teachers and students to include IEP students
- Escort and assist students with field trips
- Learn and be able to use a variety of adaptive equipment for different student needs
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to maintain discipline with large groups of students
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, staff, co‑workers, administrators and parents
- High level of proficiency in clerical, secretarial and computer skills
- Physically able to perform the following on a daily basis
- Ability to occasionally lift items weighing 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, withstand frequent pushing, pulling, squatting and reaching
