The educator must hold a valid California Single Subject Physical Education Teaching Credential

Duties and Responsibilities of Classroom Teachers

Classroom teachers shall be evaluated by the site administrator or the appropriate Assistant Superintendent according to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

The duties and responsibilities of classroom teachers are as follows:

  • Establish goals and objectives in cooperation with the principal or designee, consistent with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, district policies, and the collective bargaining agreement; including:
    • Being present on campus during designated time.
    • Attending job‑related meetings and activities.
    • Submitting accurate forms, reports, and required documents.
    • Complying with mandatory child abuse reporting laws.
    • Adhering to state adopted curriculum and standards.
  • Take responsibility to the site administrator for the care, control, and instruction of students in charge.
  • Report promptly to the principal any serious accident or illness affecting students.
  • Respect the individuality of children.
  • Maintain conditions and practices that positively affect the physical and mental health of students.
  • Report promptly any factors preventing full exercise of duties.
  • Stay abreast of innovative educational practices and curriculum trends to participate in policy-making and curriculum revision.
  • Enforce rules governing pupil conduct as prescribed by the Superintendent and Board of Education, and those developed cooperatively with the principal and faculty.
  • Work cooperatively with district employees and the community.
  • Provide and maintain adequate lesson plans and instructions for substitute teachers.
  • Perform non‑instructional duties and responsibilities, including supervisory and advisory duties, as prescribed by the Board of Education.
  • Step Placement Information

    Step placement is based on prior years of K-12 teaching experience while holding a valid teaching credential. At least 75% of a school year must have been served to count as a year of experience. Classification is based on semester units completed after your bachelor’s degree. The maximum step placement for a new hire is Step 15, accepting up to fourteen years of prior experience if qualified for Class 4.
