Our staff is made up of enthusiastic lifelong learners who bring a love of the outdoors and a commitment to outdoor education to WOLF School’s students and teachers.

We spend over two weeks each year in specialized staff trainings including safety seminars, group-building, leadership, and content area knowledge for our science, history, and team building programs in order to best prepare and support our staff in their valuable roles as educators. Our staff act as positive role models for their students and create a safe and supportive community for the students at the WOLF School.

Position Descriptions naturalist

Position

Description:

Plan and teach curriculum based on WOLF School’s seven concepts, California State Content Standards and Frameworks, and Next Generation Science Standards for K-12th grade residential outdoor science school groups of 15–18 students for 2–5 day programs. Teaching takes place on interpretive hikes, at meals, campfires, and educational activities at any of WOLF School’s six California campuses.

Qualifications: Must be able to plan and implement experiential, hands‑on outdoor science school curriculum. Requires travel, reliable vehicle, teamwork, BA/BS degree or equivalent experience, and interest in environmental education and teaching children. First aid, CPR, and ability to pass TB test and background check required. Flexibility, maturity, teamwork required. Experience working with school‑aged children in community, residential, and/or educational programs desired.

Knowledge of education, science, natural history, group building, musical, Spanish‑speaking, and leadership skills desired.

Position

Description:

Act as on‑call, on‑site director and health supervisor for duration of 2–5 day educational programs at any of WOLF School’s six California campuses. Coordinate with the school director, teachers, naturalists, chaperones, staff, and students, dispense medications, and provide leadership during program. Participate in design, implementation, and evaluation of WOLF School curriculum as well as other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must have BA/BS degree or equivalent experience and minimum three years’ experience in environmental education programs and curriculum design and implementation, or equivalent experience. Requires travel, reliable vehicle, flexibility, maturity, teamwork, and excellent organizational and communication skills. First aid, CPR, and ability to pass TB test and background check required. Spanish‑speaking, leadership skills, musical skills desired.

Pay & Hours

Pay is hourly and most programs are 4 days, 3 nights long.

Naturalists may go home at night after students are tucked in.

Program director required to be on‑site for duration of program.

Housing and meals provided during program only.

Meals provided starting with dinner the first day of program through lunch on the last day of program.

We easily accommodate vegetarian diets and other diverse food needs.

Program

Staff primarily work outdoor science school programs, with some history and team building programs.

Naturalists have the same group of students for the whole week and must create their own curriculum based on the program goals.
