Prep Science Teacher – Physics

Position type:
Full Time, 10‑month schedule.

Location:

Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton, CA 94027. Salary: $82,000‑$173,502 annually (100% FTE). FLSA classification:
Exempt.

Reports to:

Prep Science Department Head.

Responsibilities
  • Teach science (physics and at least one other science discipline) to high school students grades 9‑12.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and student resources.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Evaluate student work and provide meaningful feedback to guide learning and growth.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
  • Use effective class‑management techniques to ensure effective learning.
  • Contribute actively to building a vibrant educator learning culture and collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and assessments.
  • Maintain expertise in subject matter and pedagogy through continuous professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • BA degree in Education, Science or relevant field and three years of relevant teaching experience.
  • Teaching experience in an independent/Catholic school environment and/or Master’s degree in a relevant field and/or teaching credential in appropriate subject matter strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach physics at all levels (introductory, honors, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics

    C).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach 9‑12 high school‑level science course(s) in at least one other discipline within their subject area.
  • Strong understanding of, and commitment to, pedagogy aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Ability to teach adolescents with joy, verve, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to integrate innovative technology to support student learning.
  • Ability to support all learners, including those with an identified learning difference or disability.
  • Obvious passion for science and fostering that passion in adolescents.
  • Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum and contribute ideas to enhance academic and other school programs.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in curriculum and instruction, especially standards‑based learning.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English and outstanding interpersonal skills; additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred.
  • Clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and diverse contacts.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate‑controlled classroom and intermittently in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63‑acre campus.
  • Available and willing to attend and work some evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight trips.
  • Abide by the school’s current safety policies.
