Position: 26-27 Instructional Technician (Mod/Severe)
Location: Columbia

Columbia Union School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Instructional Technician to support students with moderate to severe disabilities. This part‑time position involves working collaboratively with teachers and other staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a passion for helping students achieve their educational goals.

Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and modifying instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Provide direct support to students with moderate to severe disabilities in academic and non‑academic settings.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, and report findings to teachers and other staff.
  • Facilitate small group activities and one‑on‑one instruction to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Support students in developing social skills and promoting positive interactions with peers.
  • Assist with personal care tasks as needed, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in an educational or therapeutic setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to the needs of individual students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Ability to lift and assist students as needed, in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the needs of the school and students.
