The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in psychology courses, particularly General Psychology, for transfer to four‑year institutions. The 54‑hour lecture course covers the scientific study of behavior, including perceptions, thinking, motivation, emotion, intelligence, learning, and general psychological principles. Instruction may be delivered in classroom settings in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes two days per week for 16 weeks, with portions offered via interactive television and/or online.
The applicant should be prepared to split time evenly between the two locations and complete required training for online instruction.
- Master’s degree in psychology.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master’s in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work.
- Valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of psychology at the California Community College level.
- Equivalent qualifications as determined by the division.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Candidates with claims of equivalent experience must submit an Application for Equivalence with supporting documents.
Knowledge and Abilities- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
- Ability to work with students who have a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
