Hutchinson Public Schools is seeking Special Education Assistants to join our team for the  school year and beyond.

This position will work 165-175 days per year based on the school calendar and training and approximately 6.5 hours per day. Openings are available at all buildings. The salary range for this position is $19.59 per hour - $22.09 per hour. Salary is dependent upon education and experience.

Special Education Assistants get to work directly with our students and can make a significant impact on our students' education experience. As a Special Education Assistant you will assist individual students who are on an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) by providing support, explanation, re‑teaching, and instructional help for students.

Responsibilities Include:

• Carrying out the IEP goals as designed by the teacher.
• Help to reinforce teachings of the classroom teacher by working with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
• Help students strengthen skills to become more independent.
• Assist the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management; observe, record, and chart behaviors.
• Conferring and planning with teachers to recommend ideas, identify problems, and aid in problem solving.
• Help the classroom teacher with recordkeeping of the student's progress. Conduct informal assessments to measure students' mastery of learned materials as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Maintain confidentiality standards by adhering to the district's data privacy policy.

Required Qualifications (one of the following):

• Associate's Degree
• 60 semester college credits
• Passing score on one of the state‑approved tests (Para Educator or Para Pro)
