Title:
Instructional Assistant (Substitute) Range: 30 Step: 1 Basic Function:
Under the direction of a Principal, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom, program or other learning environment; assist teachers with the preparation of instructional materials; tutor students in assigned subject areas.
Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience in working with children in an organized setting. NCLB requirements allow for one of the following:
A. Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education,
B. Obtained an AA (or higher) degree,
C. Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instruction reading, writing and mathematics (or readiness in those subject areas). Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid First aid and CPR certificates.

Classroom or learning environment Physical Demands:
Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Seeing to monitor students. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment and demonstrate activities. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
