Handwork Teacher
Golden Valley Charter Schools is seeking a passionate Handwork Teacher to bring the art of fiber and textile crafts to life for students in grades 1–8. This is a unique opportunity for educators with a background in arts, home economics, or textile design to guide students in developing creativity, patience, and practical skills through meaningful, hands-on work. Our program emphasizes knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, and other handcrafts as a pathway to build fine motor skills, perseverance, and artistic expression.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging handwork lessons aligned with school curriculum
- Teach proper use and care of tools and materials
- Foster creativity, focus, and confidence through hands-on learning
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners (including IEP/504 accommodations)
- Assess student progress and collaborate with school leadership
- Prepare materials and maintain a safe, organized classroom environment
- Participate in school events, festivals, and exhibitions
- Contribute to a collaborative and supportive school culture
Skills &
Qualifications:
- Valid California Teaching Credential in Arts or Home Economics (required)
- Strong background in handwork / textile arts (knitting, sewing, embroidery, etc.)
- Experience working with school-aged children
- Passion for creative, hands-on education
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Interest in or openness to Waldorf-inspired education (training support available)
