The role of a Teaching Assistant, Level 2 is designed to support the instructional program within an assigned classroom. Responsibilities include assisting in the instruction of individual or small groups across various subjects, implementing behavior modification programs, monitoring and reporting student behavior and performance, and performing clerical duties as assigned. This position also supports administrators and teachers by coordinating 504 plans and working with the intervention team.
Must have an Associate’s Degree or 60 quarter hours/48 semester hours, or successful completion of courses in English, mathematics through geometry and algebra, chemistry, physical science, computer entry and retrieval, health and social studies, or have passed the Para Pro Praxis exam.
Essential Functions- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support classroom objectives.
- Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework, make‑up work, etc., to support teachers in the instructional process.
- Assists instructional staff in improving students’ learning skills, self‑care, and social development.
- Prepared and presents instructional materials in specialized and mainstream education classrooms.
- Attends meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and convey information relevant to job functions.
- Communicates with teachers regarding assigned students’ progress for needs assessments and progress evaluation.
- Documents observations of student performance in academic and school activities (e.g., social skills, behavior, assignments) to provide written records and meet mandated requirements.
- Guides special education students in personal interactions and specific student issues to develop interpersonal skills and problem‑solving strategies.
- Implements lesson plans under teacher supervision to present and reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintains manual and electronic instructional files and records for reference and to meet requirements.
- Monitors students’ performance under teacher direction to provide feedback aligned with IEPs.
- Obtains homework assignments for students at various academic levels to meet classroom needs.
- Performs related duties to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Supervises and escorts students to and from classes to provide a safe learning environment.
- Reports observations and incidents involving specific students (e.g., accidents, conflicts, inappropriate behavior, rule violations, safety conditions) to communicate information to instructional and administrative staff.
- Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Age 16+
- High school diploma or equivalent.
