Description

The Emotional and Behavioral Specialist will provide district-wide support focused on building staff capacity around best practices in social and behavioral support for students, including Tier 1 practices and the identification and selection of appropriate interventions for students in need of Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels of support. The specialist will guide all staff concerning the implementation of social‑emotional learning best practices, the monitoring of curriculum scope and sequence, and the review and securement of appropriate curriculum materials.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree; advanced degree desirable
  • Minnesota teaching license in Special Education, Social Work, or Psychology
  • Knowledge of current SEL best practices
  • Knowledge of SEL curriculum content and processes
  • Skilled communicator and facilitator
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with minimum supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills
Job Summary
  • Keep current on emotional/behavioral intervention best practices through reading, research, and workshops. Communicate this information to staff.
  • Coordinate and provide in‑service training for staff on SEL educational and curriculum topics.
  • Assist the Director of Special Services, Executive Director of Student Support and Engagement, and Coordinators in preparing staff development opportunities.
  • Serve on the Behavior Consultation Team.
  • Serve on the Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Training Team.
  • Facilitate the district social/emotional learning community of practice.
  • Maintain a K‑12 materials resource library of quality SEL educational materials.
  • Review SEL technology offerings and provide acquisition recommendations.
  • Attend district and building‑level committee meetings to guide social‑emotional educational direction.
  • Support team processes for identifying students requiring emotional and/or behavioral interventions.
  • Support systems and processes to enhance the instructional environment, implement interventions with fidelity, monitor progress, and adjust or abandon interventions as needed.
