Oakhurst K-2 Music Teacher

Oakhurst Elementary School is seeking a Music Teacher to develop students’ understanding, appreciation, and skills in music in a safe and engaging classroom environment. Position is under the general supervision of the School Principal.

Develops students’ understanding and appreciation of the art of music, including listening to a wide range of musical genres, periods, and styles. Identifies, promotes, and develops each student’s talents in vocal and instrumental musical expression.

• Develops and administers music education curriculum consistent with school district goals.
• Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
• Organizes balanced music program and lessons to manage class time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, modifying instruction to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs.
• Utilizes a repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate.
• Plans, coordinates rehearsals, and directs students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom.
• Continues professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or conducting research.
• Maintains accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
• Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Ensures student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and district policies, establishing a productive learning atmosphere during practice, rehearsal, and performances.
• Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate music supplies and instrument equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and telephone.

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, spelling, literature, and other content areas taught.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to play an instrument or instruments and conduct students in playing instruments.
• Ability to instruct students in singing, harmonization, and chorus.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others involved in the course of work.

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Certification/License:

• State certification as a Music Teacher.
• Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching.
• Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

• Successful prior teaching experience in music for the appropriate grade level preferred.
