Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Must be 18 years of age
High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Basic knowledge of sign language, working towards BEI certification.
Ability to work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support
1. Assist with interpretation in educational settings including classrooms, co-curricular activities, school-related programs and meetings, conferences, staff development, and other situations.
2. Tutor Deaf and Hard of Hearing students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
3. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's communication needs.
4. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned students.

Student Management
5. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
6. Help manage student behavior including intervening in crisis situations when necessary.

Other
7. Help maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
8. Maintain confidentiality.
9. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
10. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Customer Care Skills 11. Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals at all times.
12. Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages and route them to the appropriate staff.
13. Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.
14. Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
15. Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.
