Special Needs Aide
The Special Needs Aide shall work under the District supervision of the Special Education Teacher and the site Principal. The primary responsibility shall be to support the classroom teacher in implementation of the students IEP's.
Minimum qualifications include:
- A general knowledge of basic learning and social adjustment of students
- Pass the County proficiency test
- Bilingual or signing abilities may be preferred
- Interpersonal skills and flexibility necessary to work cooperatively with others
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent
- CPR certification required (CPR training will be offered by the District)
Typical duties and responsibilities may include:
- Assisting certificated staff in classroom programs
- Participating in lesson and program planning, staff meetings, and conferences with teachers and parents
- Supporting the goals and objectives of instructional objectives by preparing materials and obtaining required supplies or equipment
- Entering into supportive relationship with the pupil under the supervisor's direction to foster learning in an atmosphere of acceptance
- Implementing teacher assigned activities in regular classes in conjunction with the regular class curriculum
- Providing necessary supervision and assistance in activities such as toileting, field trips, educational activities on and off campus, meal services, and the arrival and departure of students for home or community functions
Possess an AA degree or at least 48 semester units from an accredited college or a passing score on the Lake County Office of Education Para-Proficiency test. CPR & First Aid certification required within 12 months of employment. Position may also require some lifting. Ability to work positively and effectively with students, families, school personnel, and other community agencies.
