Temporary Instructor Pool – University Extension
California State University, East Bay's University Extension invites applications for a continuous pool of qualified instructors to teach in professional development, certificate, degree completion, workforce education, and lifelong learning programs. Appointments are temporary, part-time, and made on an as-needed basis depending on program demand, enrollment, and funding.
University Extension seeks experienced educators and industry professionals who are passionate about sharing their expertise with adult learners and helping students achieve their academic and professional goals.

The Temporary Instructor Pool is continuously open. Instructors are appointed as program needs arise. Assignments vary by discipline, delivery modality, schedule, and location.
Instruction may be delivered:
- In person
- Online (synchronous and/or asynchronous)
- Hybrid
- At CSU East Bay campuses or partner locations
Courses may be offered during weekdays, evenings, or weekends.
Responsibilities may include:
- Teach assigned courses using approved curriculum and learning outcomes.
- Develop and maintain course materials consistent with University Extension standards.
- Facilitate engaging learning experiences for adult learners with diverse backgrounds and professional experiences.
- Assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate student records and complete required administrative responsibilities.
- Incorporate current industry practices and emerging trends into instruction.
- Collaborate with University Extension staff on course planning and continuous program improvement.
- Support a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.
Date of appointment:
Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026 and Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.
Rank and salary:
The salary schedule information for the Instructional Faculty, Special Sessions Classification is available based on the following ranges:
Instructional Faculty, Special Sessions, Range 2: $165.00 - $2,279.00 Instructional Faculty, Special Sessions, Range 3: $165.00 - $2,497.00 Instructional Faculty, Special Sessions, Range 4: $165.00 - $3,146.00 Instructional Faculty, Special Sessions, Range 5: $165.00 - $3,977.00
Qualifications:
Qualifications vary by program and instructional assignment. The qualifications listed below represent the minimum requirements for consideration in the Instructor Pool. A master's degree is the standard minimum qualification for instructional assignments. However, certain programs or courses may consider applicants with a bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience when appropriate based on program needs, industry standards, accreditation requirements, or demonstrated subject matter expertise.
Individual courses or programs may also require a doctoral degree, specific professional licensure, industry certifications, or other specialized credentials.
- Master's degree in an appropriate discipline. Certain programs may consider applicants with a bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience, as appropriate for the instructional assignment.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the assigned instructional area.
- Experience teaching, training, facilitating, or presenting to adult learners.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively teach learners from diverse academic, cultural, and professional backgrounds.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Master's degree or terminal degree in a related discipline.
- Relevant professional certifications or industry credentials.
- College-level teaching experience.
- Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
- Experience designing curriculum or instructional materials.
- Current professional practice within the field being taught.
