Career & Transition Coordinator (Temporary)

This is a part-time, grant-funded, hourly position, up to 12 hours per week. This position is not benefit-eligible and is temporary through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment, not to exceed a total of three years in this position.

The Think by the Bay Career & Transition Coordinator independently leads the development and implementation of career exploration, employment readiness, and interagency transition planning services for students with intellectual disabilities () enrolled in the Think by the Bay program  Coordinator develops and expands on-campus and community-based employment partnerships, implements individualized and customized employment strategies, and represents the program in collaboration with external agencies including Local Education Agencies (LEAs), regional centers, and the Department of Rehabilitation.

Working in partnership with families, faculty, and staff, the Coordinator ensures coordinated transition planning, alignment with IEP/IPP goals, and measurable employment outcomes that prepare students for meaningful postsecondary employment.

Responsibilities

Employment Planning, Job Development, and Coaching Support

  • Coordinate career planning using interest inventories, person-centered planning tools, and student interviews.
  • Develop on-campus job shadowing, internships, and part-time job placements in collaboration with Career Services and campus departments.
  • Build relationships with local employers to expand community-based employment opportunities.
  • Implement customized employment strategies including job carving and workplace accommodations.

Job Readiness Instruction and Support

  • Provide individualized and group instruction on resume development, job search skills, interviewing, and workplace etiquette.
  • Coach students on appropriate workplace communication, behavior, and problem-solving.
  • Promote student independence by systematically fading direct job supports and strengthening natural supports in the workplace.
  • Collaborate with peer mentors to reinforce employment goals in daily life.

Transition Coordination and Agency Collaboration

  • Partner with LEAs, regional centers, and DOR to align support with IEP and IPP goals.
  • Contribute to CTP documentation and vendorization efforts.
  • Participate in IEP/IPP meetings and coordinate communication among team members.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to student employment, skill development, and interagency involvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned.
  • General knowledge of individual counseling techniques.
  • General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.
  • Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.

Abilities

  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
  • Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
  • Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
  • Carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

Experience

  • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
