Special Education Teacher Mod/Severe
$40-$48/hr + $2,500 Placement Bonus | Full-Time | San Lorenzo CA | CA teaching certification or licensure in Special Education - Moderate/severe credential
Job SummaryThe Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and educational support to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher collaborates with general education teachers, administrators, service providers, and families to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations, modifications, and interventions to support academic, social, and emotional success. This position is for a Mod-Severe special education teacher SY. Schedule will be from 8:15am-3:45pm.
Grade level is 9-12th with roughly 9 students in the class.
Design and deliver specialized instruction aligned with state standards and IEP goals. Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and materials to meet diverse learning needs. Provide instruction in various settings, including general education classrooms, resource rooms, or self-contained classrooms. Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
IEP Development & ComplianceDevelop, implement, and maintain IEPs in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations. Participate in and facilitate IEP meetings, including annual reviews and reevaluations. Ensure accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports are implemented consistently. Maintain accurate and confidential special education records.
Collaboration & CommunicationCollaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices. Work closely with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, school psychologists). Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs. Partner with administrators and support staff to ensure compliance and student success.
Behavior & Classroom ManagementImplement positive behavior supports and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed. Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. Support students' social-emotional development and self-advocacy skills.
Assessment & Data CollectionConduct ongoing assessments and analyze data to inform instruction. Participate in formal evaluations and eligibility determinations when required.
QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field. Valid state teaching certification or licensure in Special Education. Knowledge of IDEA, IEP processes, and special education best practices.
Preferred:
Master's degree in Special Education or a related field. Experience working with students with mild to moderate or severe disabilities. Experience in inclusive or co-teaching models.
Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills. Knowledge of differentiated instruction and intervention strategies. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work with diverse student populations. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Patience, empathy, and commitment to student advocacy.
Physical & Work RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Ability to lift or assist students as needed, with appropriate training. Ability to respond to behavioral or emergency situations.
Schedule & Work EnvironmentFollows the school calendar year. Full-time or part-time, depending on school needs. Work environment includes classrooms, meetings, and school-based activities.
