Elementary Music Teacher Position - Part-Time - 6 hours/week

Overview:
The Lycée Français de San Francisco is seeking qualified applicants for an Elementary (K-5th grade) Part-Time Music teacher for the  school year. The ideal candidate has a strong background The ideal candidate has a strong background in teaching music and cares about bringing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into the classroom. Understanding bilingual education is a bonus. We need someone who is creative, patient, and able to build a supportive learning environment The Lycée Français de San Francisco is a French Immersion College Preparatory School in the San Francisco Bay Area.

We provide a challenging educational environment based on the French national curriculum and English classes based on the California Common Core from PS-12th grade. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a well-structured, well-assimilated body of general knowledge while encouraging the development of analytical and critical thinking skills. Our students earn a US high school diploma, as well as prepare for the French Baccalauréat or the International Baccalaureate, which qualifies them for both American and European Universities.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement comprehensive Music instruction aligned with Lycée curriculum standards, incorporating musical and social-emotional development.
  • Vocal and Instrumental Instruction:
    Teach foundational singing, rhythm, and beginning instrumental skills appropriate to each grade level, building students’ confidence and technique.
  • Performance Preparation:
    Prepare students for classroom performances, assemblies, and school events, developing ensemble skills, listening, and stage presence.
  • Reinforce French Through Music:
    Use French songs, repertoire, and vocabulary to strengthen the immersion environment and connect musical learning to students’ French language development.
  • Incorporate music from French-speaking countries and diverse world traditions to broaden students’ cultural understanding and promote appreciation of musical diversity, aligned with our DEIB standards.
  • Differentiated Instruction:
    Utilize differentiated instruction techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed and progress in their French language skills.
  • Assessment and Feedback:
    Regularly check how students are doing, give feedback to support their musical growth, and complete the music section of report cards twice a year.
  • Team up with classroom teachers to connect music with other subjects, and communicate with the music teacher at our other primary campus to align lesson prep, show dates, and shared events.
  • Parent Communication:
    Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians regarding students’ progress, challenges, and achievements in music.
  • Professional Development:
    Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices.
  • Extracurricular Involvement:
    Participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and events that contribute to the overall school community and support students' holistic development.

    Abide by all Lycée safety protocols;
    Display appropriate dress, behavior, and language at all times;
    Treat all students, parents, and colleagues with dignity and respect;
    Attend all staff meetings, in-service meetings, and training sessions;
    Participate in school field trips and Lycée Global Learning Program;
    Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students;
    Effectively manage class discipline, using positive methods as much as possible;
    Punctual presence in all classes and meetings and the completion of all duties.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Music education, or related field;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification or credential preferred.
  • Experience teaching Music at the elementary level.
