The City of Bishop is accepting applications for the position of Gymnastics Instructor.
The Gymnastics Instructor is responsible for planning, executing, and instruction of youth gymnastics classes and programs. This position is a part-time position.

DEFINITION
A City of Bishop Instructor is responsible for planning, executing, and instruction youth and adult classes and programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED- May receive general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Coordinator, Community Services Secretary.
Typical duties may include some or all of the following:
- Plans, implements, and conducts specific recreation class/program activities appropriate to the subject area and participant’s age.
- Provides Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Coordinator, or Community Services Secretary with written class description/lesson plan of program content.
- Provides various lessons for children and adults.
- Prepares site for activity and ensures proper clean-up at end of each class/program.
- Formulates and submits supply sheets and instructional handouts to class participants.
- Establishes and enforces class/program rules and policies for students.
- Ensures program goals are met.
- Ensures participant safety.
- Reports all accidents, incidents, and disciplinary concerns to the Community Services Manager.
- Oversees proper use of facility, equipment, and supplies.
- Administers first aid.
- Ensures all class records/paperwork is up to date and turned in at conclusion of class/program.
- Performs related work as required.
Ability to:
- Ability to work effectively with children and adults.
- Plan and direct a quality recreational program, work effectively with age range of class that is being offered and generate interest of participants in class/program.
- React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Pass pre-employment live scan/ background check.
- Considerable knowledge of specialized subject matter of class/program.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of instructional procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of participant performance level.
- Skill in leadership, teaching techniques, organizing time, and assessing participant’s interests and capabilities, communicating both orally and in writing, controlling a group, dealing with problem situations and people.
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:- One (1) year of work experience in a leadership capacity related to the program area is preferred. Related experience may be in recreation, sports, youth-oriented programs, or in a classroom environment.
- Adult or youth fitness-oriented programs, sports and nutrition curriculum, enrichment and activities, preferred.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certificates is required within 30 days of hire.
